George Leventis, PE


 

George Leventis, is a Senior Principal of Langan Engineering and in this capacity he has been in charge of the company’s operations in New York City since the early 1990’s. Between 1998 and 2001, Mr. Leventis served as Director General of the Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, Athens 2004, S.A., overseeing all activities related to Olympic works and the environment. As President of Langan International, Mr. Leventis has been leading the firm’s growing international practice, spearheading the opening of Langan International’s two offices in the Middle East in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, UAE and its presence in Athens, Greece.  George’s recent projects include Moynihan Station Redevelopment, Jacob Javits Center Expansion, United Nations Capital Program, Basrah Sports City, Abu Dhabi Hotel & Marina and King Abdullah Financial District. 

Mr. Leventis’ awards include the 1993 Grand Award of the State of New Jersey for his work on the Liberty Science Center; the ACEC 1995 National Honor Award for his work on the New York Hospital expansion over the FDR Drive in Manhattan; and the ACEC 2005 National Grand Award, ASCE 2005 Outstanding Civil Engineers Achievement Award (OCEA/OPAL), and DFI 2007 Outstanding Project Award for his work on the Rion-Antirion Bridge.

Mr. Leventis is an experienced geotechnical engineer whose practice involves subsurface investigations, design and construction supervision of foundations for buildings, waterfront structures, tunnels, and dams and pile foundations, drilled-in-caissons socketed into rock subjected to high axial compressive and lateral shear loads; and estimation of bearing capacity of piles by means of in-situ testing, pile driving and load tests; Phase II studies of dams in accordance with the U.S. Corps of Engineers guidelines; assessment of structural conditions of existing tunnels, stability of embankments and earth dams; analysis of existing and imposed stresses on tunnel linings; earth and rock slope stability evaluation; design and performance monitoring of earth and rock retaining structures; pre-construction conditions surveys; and design of site remediation systems.

Mr. Leventis, received his MS, in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Illinois and his BSCE from National Technical University of Athens, Greece.
